Children need to learn how to use computers effectively to be more productive in their school work and one day, on the job. The goal of K to the 8th Power is to provide an easy-to-use system for developing computer literacy and applied technology skills. Parents and teachers can use this curriculum to develop computer literate and technology savvy students while at the same time reinforcing National and State academic standards. This powerful combination assists the parent with practical computer lab activities and exercises that teach children how to use computers while simultaneously reinforcing important academic concepts.
If you are going to learn how to use a computer, you need content. The lesson content used in the K to the 8th Power program is based on National and State academic standards in reading, math, and written language. National and State examination objectives are used as the basis for the computer lab activities and lesson content. This approach gives the parent an abundance of material that integrates technology into core academics. As students develop computer literacy they are also building upon the reading, math, and written language skills being taught in virtually every curriculum. In addition, using multiple learning modalities provided by the courseware, each student more easily grasps the objectives of National and State examinations.
Learning doesn't have to be all work and no play. Each K to the 8th Power lesson provides the student with multiple interactive exercises and games. For instance, a student in the sixth grade learning about irregular plurals might play "Captain Cruise" and ride over the correct spelling of a plural word. Later in the lesson the student might play "Why did the Chicken Cross the Road" and answer questions about the lesson. Not only do students have fun but they reinforce academic concepts at the same time.
The online version of this curriculum comes with a Learning Management System for tracking student progress. Student progress is automatically tracked and recorded as the student progresses through the activities and assessments. The Learning Management System provided with this curriculum contains many features to assist with the learning process and with student tracking. Features such as grade books, informational libraries, and other resources accompany the curriculum to provide an advanced solution for individual learning and tracking. Note that the CD-ROM version of the product does not have a Learning Management System.
